Her announcement came as it emerged that Humza Yousaf, Scotland’s Health Secretary, is poised to announce his candidacy
“The new leader needs to reach out across the party and the movement and to adopt a more collegiate approach. If we are to go forward united to achieve our goal of independence, we need to face up to what has gone wrong and put it right.”
As yet, nobody has officially announced that they are standing to replace Ms Sturgeon in what would be the first SNP leadership contest since 2004. Responding to his potential candidacy, Labour’s health spokeswoman Jackie Baillie said NHS patients and staff “deserve better than a part-time Health Secretary who is dreaming of changing the curtains at Bute House”.
