Keith Brown said Labour should stop putting its “right wing London bosses before workers” and support his motion.
The SNP has called for Scottish Labour to support a motion backing the devolution of employment law to the Scottish Parliament.
It comes after the Daily Record reported that Labour MSPs were urged not to support the call, and instead were asked to support an amendment which refers to Holyrood strengthening workers’ rights. But UK Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner said last month that a future Labour Government would not devolve the issue.Ahead of the debate, Brown urged Labour MSPs to “do right by workers and their party” by signing the motion and speaking in favour of it on Tuesday night.
“The devolution of workers’ rights is backed by some of the biggest trades unions in the country, including the STUC, TUC and Unite, and it’s even Labour’s own policy - it is astonishing that not one Labour MSP has agreed with a motion that calls out Westminster’s anti-trade union legislation and is in support of workers rights.
