Sydney is bracing for its chilliest day in five years as a cold snap keeps its grip on the eastern coast.

Parramatta has already recorded its coldest morning in seven years with the temperature getting down to two degrees.The red patch on this modified image indicates a snowfall on NSW that was visible from space.And it wasn't just in the state's ski regions either. reported that yesterday morning , a 50km stretch of the Central Tablelands found itself covered in snow after Monday's strong south-eastern cold front.A NASA satellite overhead was able to pick out the snow that had fallen on the Oberon Plateau, just two hours west of Sydney.

It comes as even colder temperatures hit around the country today, with Canberra at -6 degrees hitting its coldest morning of the year., the shortest day of the year, with the sun returning for longer and longer stretches in the sky.
