Snowdon walkers say queues are like 'Christmas at Tesco' as they call for ban over 'disrespectful' acts
Walkers who often visit mount Snowdon have been left furious after noticing an influx of people 'disrespecting' the area this summer. An online debate has been sparked over the amount of people taking on Wales' highest mountain, with complaints that queues are like 'Christmas at Tesco'.
On the same day, a party of young of men was led to safety in the Lake District after some took magic mushrooms. Keswick Mountain Rescue said two members of the group had fallen unwell after ingesting the hallucinogenic fungi. Another walker said the trend wasn’t unique to Yr Wyddfa, though it’s more likely there as it’s the UK’s busiest mountain. “Tagging” seems to be a new phenomenon on hills across the country,” he said.
That was the case last weekend, reported the Snowdonia Mountain Community page on Facebook. “The café was rammed before anyone had got off the train,” it said. Another said: “Won’t be long until they Tarmac it and put a car park or a shuttle service on the summit. Surprised they haven’t put cable cars in it.” As others noted, there is a large building and a railway there already. Neverthless, the latter suggestion gained currency with some who would like to see more winter access for the elderly and infirm.
