Snow removal staffing remains challenge, LaFrance administration tells Assembly committee ANCHORAGE , Alaska - If the 2024-25 winter season is anything like the past two years, Mayor Suzanne LaFrance’s new municipal manager told Anchorage Assembly members staffing to remove snow will still remain a major challenge.
Windt Pearson’s comments were part of an Assembly’s Transportation Committee presentation, which also included Anchorage School District and Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities presenting plans for coordination, communication, fleet, personnel, and cost for the upcoming winter. “We have a multi-pronged approach that we need to take on from here forward,” she explained to the committee. “We need to be actively recruiting for these available positions. We also need to be taking a careful look at what we pay, whether it’s fair, whether it’s competitive, whether we need to make changes in that to make sure we can keep these positions filled.”
The state DOT outlined the roads they are responsible for, saying that of the 5,300 lane miles they’re responsible for statewide, 1,800 are in the municipality.
