Murphy is hoping New Jersey will be the nation’s leading producer of wind energy by 2040, so a stumble here could blow a hole in the side of the Biden administration’s clean energy goals. The stakes couldn’t be higher for either side — or for state electricity customers, who are caught in the middle and may pay billions of dollars more in coming decades depending on the outcome of the talks.
But Murphy isn’t the only one with a lot to lose. Orsted, a company with roots in the European oil and gas industry, could lose credibility as it attempts to dominate the American offshore wind market.
