A snake catcher left fighting for life after being bitten on the job is showing signs of recovery, his daughter says. Mark Pelley, otherwise known as the Snake Hunter, was trying to reign in a tiger snake last Sunday morning when a piece of his equipment broke. According to his daughter Aishah, the snake pounced and bit her dad’s hand, with the venom from the deep bite entering his blood stream. “ started to have neurological effects immediately,” the 21-year-old said.
“Yesterday he stood up for the first time since Sunday morning before the bite, which is a huge milestone and very reassuring to me. “There is still a long road ahead but I know dad is determined.” Tiger snakes are one of the most venomous snakes in the world, and can be found in most parts of Victoria. The venom of a tiger snake is extremely potent, with it containing neurotoxins, procoagulants, and mycotoxins. Neurotoxins destroy nerve tissue, while myotoxins damage muscles.
