“This is a historic moment for science and exploration,” said Nelson. “We are witnessing the first time that a piece of an asteroid has been brought back to our planet for study.” The display also features a question that captures the scientific curiosity and excitement of the project: “Could this fragment of an asteroid hold information about the beginnings of our Solar System and the formation of life on Earth?” The answer is yes, according to the researchers who will analyze the sample’s composition and structure.
