San Jose Sharks rookie Will Smith scores first two NHL goals against the Chicago Blackhawks

SAN JOSE – Will Smith scored twice for the first points of his NHL career, and goalie Mackenzie Blackwood came up with several key saves in the late going as the San Jose Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Thursday for their third straight victory.
Blackwood made 13 saves in the third period when the Blackhawks spent several shifts hemming the Sharks in their own zone. He finished with 29 saves. Smith was stationed near the faceoff dot to the right of the Blackhawks net in the first period. He took a pass from linemate Luke Kunin and quickly fired it past Chicago goalie Petr Mrazek to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
That game was the third of Nieto’s NHL career, as it was for Tomas Hertl, who had four goals that night at SAP Center.
