Columnist Cameron Smith: '(Mike) Durant must give voters a reason to trust him with a Senate seat. For that, he’ll need much more than a postcard in the last week of the campaign.'
There are a lot of weird people who follow politics, so it’s not out of the question that someone sent Durant a postcard impersonating Wilson, and Durant responded publicly without checking. If that happened, Wilson could be telling the truth, and Durant could also claim he actually received the card. It would be easy enough to walk back.
The mysterious postcard isn’t as important as why Durant is using it. The aspiring senator is saying, “I’m not a RINO because a Trump critic sent me a postcard.” That’s a really strange way to bolster the track record of a “conservative patriot.”
