Smaller parties most likely to take a hit in upcoming elections
The Electoral Commission of South Africa announced last week that it had trained 48 899 registration officials ahead of the registration weekend, which concluded on Sunday.
Mathys acknowledged that users on Twitter and other social media platforms represent a small number of the voting public. The party will launch its manifesto on September 26 at Gandhi Square in Johannesburg, and Mathys said there would be no restrictions on the number of people at the launch.“There’s nothing free and fair about Ramaphosa’s lockdown restrictions. Most of the time we talk to people outside their homes. If we do enter their homes we’ll ensure we adhere to Covid-19 protocols, wearing masks and sanitising. We don’t want to put the public and our fighters at risk,” Mathys said.
DA spokesperson Siviwe Gwarube said that political parties weren’t too different to other organisations that have had to adapt during this unprecedented period. The DA, like the EFF, believes that the government should end the lockdown and the state of disaster.
