Small tornado landed in N.J. town during intense thunderstorms, weather service confirms

Weather experts inspected the storm damage and determined an EF-0 tornado struck.

With top winds ranging from 65 mph to 85 mph, EF-0 tornadoes are the weakest ones on the Enhanced Fujita scale, which measures the intensity of twisters.

Fire officials said possible straight-line winds knocked over two trees on Stockton Bridge Road in Pemberton on Friday, June 16, 2023. The National Weather Service later confirmed a small tornado had touched down in the township.at 12:55 p.m. Friday for parts of Burlington County and Ocean County, after detecting cloud rotation — one of the key signatures of a possible tornado — on weather radar.
