Small plane makes emergency landing off coast of Carlsbad [Breaking]
A small plane with three people on board made an emergency landing in the water off a beach in Carlsbad early Thursday morning, officials said.
Carlsbad police were notified around 7:45 a.m. that the plane, a single-engine Piper PA-28 Cherokee, was on the beach off Carlsbad Boulevard near Poinsettia Lane, just south of the South Carlsbad State Beach campground. The plane landed in the ocean, southwest of McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, after the pilot reported engine problems, a FAA spokesperson said.
The plane was flying from Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego to John Wayne Airport in Orange County. Three people were on board, the FAA said.Video shown on Fox 5 San Diego showed the plane with part of its left wing broken off. The plane was on the beach at the surf line and was being hit by waves. The video showed firefighters gathered on the cliffs above where the plane was located.
