ANCHORAGE, Alaska - In the second week of 2026, local physical therapist Cortland Reger says the secret to lasting fitness success isn’t trying harder but smarter. “I think, sadly...how many resolutions I’ve set and then not followed through with. It’s a bummer,” Reger, owner of Reger Physical Therapy, said. Reger says the key to long-lasting fitness lies in small, sustainable changes rather than dramatic overhauls. “That’s where being specific about your goal is really good. It’s one thing to say it out loud, it’s another thing to write it down,” Reger said.“A beginner exercise for folks would be just a simple sit to stand to where we want to sit down gracefully, not flop,” Reger said. “Then get our nose over our toes and drive through our feet, our quads, and our glutes and stand on up.” In Alaska, winter training often targets summer goals.
