Perry took a nearly two-month-long leave of absence that started in mid-November after he was accused of driving his Jeep Rubicon while intoxicated, crashing into a Honda Civic at a Northeast Side intersection and fleeing the scene on the night of Nov. 6. The driver of the Civic and a passenger were uninjured.He was arrested on a charge of leaving an accident scene without providing information Nov. 10 and on a DWI charge on Dec. 28 — both Class B misdemeanors.
Perry unexpectedly returned to City Council on Jan. 12, less than a week before the council and mayoral candidates could begin filing for places on the May ballot. It was a move that had some thinking he was trying to scare off any potential challengers.
