The Slocomb RedTops boys basketball team staged a remarkable comeback from a 12-point deficit to defeat Northside Methodist Academy 60-45 in a Class 3A, Area 3 contest. Trailing 22-10 after the first quarter, Slocomb's seniors, Tyler Nichols , Cade Birge , and Wyatt Reeder, led the charge, outscoring the Knights in the final three quarters. Nichols finished with a season-high 31 points, Birge added 24, while Reeder contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Slocomb's victory improves their record to 16-4 overall and 4-1 in area play. This win sets the stage for a crucial showdown Friday against Houston Academy (4-0), the area leader, which will determine the area regular-season champion and host team for the area postseason tournament.Northside Methodist, on the other hand, fell to 6-19 overall and 1-4 in area with the loss. They will face Wicksburg Friday to secure their seeding for the area postseason tournament. The Knights were led by Kyle Kirchhoff with 20 points, including 11 in the first quarter. They started strong, hitting four 3-pointers in the opening frame and building an 18-6 lead. However, Slocomb's relentless defense held NMA to just eight field goals in the remaining three quarters. Slocomb head coach Brett Singletary highlighted the importance of defense in their comeback victory. He acknowledged the Knights' strong start but expressed confidence in his team's ability to overcome adversity.
