Labour is eyeing winning back a raft of Scottish seats it has not held since 2010 as it seeks toBoth Labour and the Conservatives are now seeking to take advantage of the turmoil, believing they could pick up votes from a public growing increasingly disillusioned by the Scottish government.
“The general rule for Labour in Scotland is ‘the sky’s the limit’ and there’s little point at this stage of having a ceiling – at least privately – of what could be achieved,” Mr Hopkins added. “However, once this latest SNP drama has settled and there is a new leader, there’s nothing to say a comeback of sorts couldn’t be mounted.”
Fresh YouGov polling published on Monday showed that the SNP and Labour are now level pegging in terms of the public’s voting intention, with Labour on 34 per cent, just one point ahead of the SNP on 33 per cent.
