SAN ANTONIO - Human smuggling is a huge enterprise for cartels and criminal organizations, and state leaders say they're seeing an old trend starting to pick up again: Migrants being smuggled in on small planes.
Holland showed leaders a series of videos from busts in recent years, explaining that his team is starting see more migrants paying big money to be transported this way. The Special Agent and HSI Agents conducted a ramp check and identified six illegal migrants trying to get to Houston."Because of the pressure that's been applied, especially in our state," Holland said.
"To avoid the security measures that are in place at the larger airports," Almonte said. "It's a big concern because these people obviously don't want to encounter our federal law enforcement agencies, such as Border Patrol."
