A century-old skeleton, previously believed to be Cleopatra's half-sister Arsinoë IV, has been identified as a young boy with a genetic disorder. CT scans and analysis revealed the skeleton belonged to an adolescent with Treacher Collins Syndrome (TCS).

The skeleton, discovered in Turkey a century ago, was thought to be Arsinoë IV, the half-sister of Cleopatra , but a new study using CT scans and analysis has proven otherwise. The skeleton, found in 1929 in a marble sarcophagus at Ephesus, was initially believed to be Arsinoë because the estimated date of death aligned with her historical record. However, the skeleton's stage of development suggested the person was only 11 to 14 years old, much younger than Arsinoë.

Further analysis revealed deformities, including an abnormally shaped upper jaw and a closed cranial suture, indicating the individual was a boy with a genetic disorder. Researchers believe the boy may have had Treacher Collins Syndrome (TCS), which affects facial and head development. The reason behind the boy's burial in the prominent Octagon at Ephesus remains a mystery
