The Skating Club of Boston is mourning the loss of six members who were aboard an American Airlines flight that collided with a U.S. Army helicopter over the Potomac River. The crash, which occurred Wednesday night, resulted in an estimated 67 fatalities with at least 28 bodies recovered. The club, known for its competitive skating program and producing Olympic champions, released a statement expressing their devastation and describing the close-knit community of skaters, coaches, and parents.

An estimated 67 individuals were involved in the crash which occurred late Wednesday night. At least 28 bodies have been recovered as of Thursday morning, and officials presume there are no survivors. CEO and Executive Director Doug Zeghibe mourned the loss of club members aboard the American Airlines flight.

“Everyone is like a family,” Zeghibe continued. “Of the skaters, coaches and parents on the plane, we believe six were from The Skating Club of Boston. We are devastated and completely at a loss for words.”
