Sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaro production to end in 2024.
The 2024 model year will be the last for the sixth generation of Chevy's muscle car, with production set to end at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Michigan in January. While Chevrolet did not confirm an immediate replacement, the company is hinting at something Camaro-branded on the horizon.
“As we prepare to say goodbye to the current generation Camaro, it is difficult to overstate our gratitude to every Camaro customer, Camaro assembly line employee and race fan,” vice president Scott Bell said in a statement. “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.”
Chevy plans to send off the sixth-gen Camaro with a Collector's Edition package, teased in ZL1 form through a trio of images released by the brand. The package will pay"homage to Camaro, resurfacing ties that date back to the development of the first generation Camaro in the 1960s, most notably the program’s initial code name: Panther," according to Chevrolet.
The Camaro currently competes in NASCAR, IMSA, SRO, NHRA, and the Supercars Championship in Australia. There's no word on what model Chevy will use once the Camaro ends production, but vice president of Chevy Performance and motorsports Jim Campbell said in a statement its plan is to"continue to compete and win at the highest levels of auto racing.”
