The Air Force needs one more juror for the court-martial of Maj. Gen. Phillip Stewart, charged with raping a female subordinat. Seven have been selected so far.

Six more Air Force generals are headed to San Antonio to help fill out a military court jury that will decide whether one of their own, Maj. Gen. Phillip Stewart , is guilty of sexually assaulting a subordinate. Jury selection in the case – only the second court-martial of a general officer in Air Force history – hit a wall Wednesday after a 7th juror was seated.

Air Force general is stripped of command and charged with sexual assault Under military law, eight are needed, but there were no prospective jurors left in the 13-member pool of generals who had been summoned to Fort Sam Houston. Of the 13, six were excused over the course of the week for various reasons bearing on whether they could weigh the evidence impartially. As a result, the Air Force has summoned a half dozen more generals to Fort Sam in the hope that one of them will qualify.

What to know about the rape case against Maj. Gen. Phillip Stewart The panel so far consists of six three-star generals and one two-star general. Three of the seated jurors are white men, two are Black men and two are white women. The trial is scheduled to begin in earnest at 8:30 a.m. Monday with opening arguments and the first witnesses – assuming an eighth juror has been seated by then. To convict Stewart, six of the eight must find him guilty.
