Firefighters made a number of daring rescues during a two-alarm blaze in Brooklyn Sunday morning.
Units responded to a call at 3400 Snyder Ave. in East Flatbush just after 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 22 and arrived to find thick black smoke billowing out of the apartment’s fifth floor windows and the inferno extending to the top floor of the six-story building.
Fire Department personnel crawled past heavy fire with low visibility to reach victims, one of whom suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. EMS administered CPR and oxygen on site before transporting the victim to a local hospital, where they were listed in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon.
Five others were injured, including one civilian and one firefighter currently listed in serious condition. Two more firefighters and one more civilian were also listed in stable condition.In all, more than 140 firefighters utilized three hose-lines to knock down the fire, which tore through at least two apartment units.
