By 2025, theme park operator Six Flags anticipates investing upwards of $600 million on new rides and attractions at its 27 destinations.
Six Flags Great Adventure near Trenton, N.J., will debut the first "super boomerang" coaster with construction of The Flash: Vertical Velocity. It travels forward and backward at nearly 60 mph through a 180-degree twisted drop and zero-G roll.Advertisement
The investment in new attractions comes at a crucial time for Six Flags and the theme park industry. One analyst who follows the industry says pent-up consumer demand for leisure activities following the COVID-19 pandemic could be waning amid economic worries and competition, such as this summer’s rise in European travel.
Jason Freeman, Six Flags’ vice president of safety and risk management and a 40-year veteran of the company, said there’s no doubt new attractions keep customers coming back. Freeman said the investment in Six Flags Fiesta is an indication of the San Antonio market’s rapid growth.
