The Special Investigating Unit has been authorised by President Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate corruption and maladministration in the affairs of the Road Accident Fund, the Overstrand Local Municipality, and Alexkor Diamond Company.

JOHANNESBURG - The Special Investigating Unit will start probing allegations of corruption and maladministration at the Road Accident Fund.This was authorised by President Cyril Ramaphosa who also put his signature to probes into Overstrand Local Municipality and Alexkor - a state-owned mining company.

The proclamations authorise the SIU to use its powers to subpoena bank statements and cellphone records, search and seize evidence, and interrogate witnesses under oath.
