: Singapura menyokong sepenuhnya Malaysia sebagai pengerusi ASEAN pada tahun hadapan, kata Perdana Menteri Singapura Lawrence Wong sambil beliau menyatakan kesediaan untuk bekerjasama ke arah ASEAN yang lebih kukuh dan bersepadu.
“Singapura yakin di bawah kepimpinan Malaysia dan Perdana Menteri Anwar, ASEAN akan terus berkembang sebagai sebuah komuniti yang lebih kuat dan bersepadu serta akan mengeratkan hubungan kita dengan rakan dialog luar. Mengenai keperluan untuk memperkukuh kedudukan ekonomi ASEAN, Wong menyebut banyak kerjasama positif antara Malaysia dan Singapura termasuk penubuhan Zon Ekonomi Khas Johor-Singapura dan Rapid Transit System Link, yang boleh menjadi model kerjasama bagi ASEAN memajukan integrasi ekonomi demi manfaat bersama.
“Apa yang ASEAN perlu lakukan ialah mengukuhkan integrasi ekonomi kita sebagai satu. Jadi saya amat berharap Malaysia dan Singapura dapat menyediakan asas yang kukuh untuk komuniti ASEAN yang lebih kukuh dan bersepadu,” katanya.
