Simu Liu as Shang-Chi in the MCU

Everyone who joins the cast of the MCU needs to be prepared for a lot of attention from the media, and relatively recent addition Simu Liu addresses his PR training and getting in trouble anyway years ago.

Liu was launched to widespread fame a few years ago when he starred as the titular character in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings of Phase Four of the MCU. A couple of years later, Liu was part of the massive cultural phenomenon of Greta Gerwig's Barbie, playing Ken . Liu was also in the animated Netflix hit In Your Dreams this year, while his other recent credits include Arthur the King, Invincible, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, and Star Wars: Visions. Now, as the MCU prepares to release Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, Liu is starring in the newly released sci-fi spy thriller series The Copenhagen Test. Liu will reprise his role as Shang-Chi in live-action for the first time since 2021 in Doomsday this year. In an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley for The Copenhagen Test, Liu reflected on his introduction to the massive cinematic universe years ago. Specifically, his behind-the-scenes responsibilities, as Crowley asked Liu:"Do you feel like your Marvel PR training helped you play an intelligence officer?" referencing how"we've often joked about how you can't say anything Marvel-related whenever we talk." Liu responded:"It's really funny. I remember my Marvel PR training. It took place over a day. It's a real thing. It's a real thing." But largely, Liu said that he doesn't know if he"learned anything" as he" getting in trouble" with Marvel, famous for secrecy surrounding its movies. Check out the actor's full comments about this below: And I don't know that I learned anything from it because I keep getting in trouble. I know. That's the one thing that they tell you at the end of the day."If you don't talk, they can't use what you say against you." And then I proceeded to talk entirely too much for the next four years. But no, in theory, I would say yes. Definitely. I remember a lot of vague lessons about how to turn the question back onto the interviewer and take control of the narrative. But yeah, I don't know if I've done that in practice. However, Liu has not seemingly given away major plot details in interviews, while recurring MCU stars Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland are more notorious for such mistakes. These two actors will be reprising their respective roles as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the forthcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, slated for release this July. Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026, and its cast is confirmed to include Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Florence Pugh, and more. Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of several previous MCU movies, also returned. Simu Liu and the rest of the cast will be asked many more questions about the MCU before people know what happens in Avengers: Doomsday, and some of them are better than others at remembering their training. In the meantime, Liu's fans can see his new series, The Copenhagen Test, in which he plays an intelligence officer who may have some things in common with an MCU star.
