I chatted with Evan Walker from 36One Asset Management last year on his concerns about the local consumer and had a follow up chat this week. Nobody doubts how tough it is out there and he is very worried but does mention some potential investments in the food retail space.

Kyle Wales of Flagship Asset management was on the show talking about three important investment metrics. Critically, he also helps us understand how they can mislead an investor which is just as important. I spoke with Mia Kruger, director at Kruger International, about the news out of China that Alibaba plans to split into six different divisions. She comments that this is Chinese regulators embracing big tech after years of cracking down on the sector.

We have very few energy stocks on the JSE but dual-listed Montauk Renewables is one and I asked Deryck Janse van Rensburg of Anchor Capital about his thoughts on the company. He likes the business model but says more digging is required to really understand the profit drivers.
