We chat with Silo EP Graham Yost & book author Hugh Howey about the inspiration behind the new AppleTVPlus series, how it was adapted it for television, and what it means to work with Rebecca Ferguson:
In Silo, men and women live in a giant silo underground with several regulations which they believe are in place to protect them from the toxic and ruined world on the surface. Tragedy strikes early on which forces Juliette into a position of power as the sheriff. She refuses to give up her search for the truth, no matter how hurt she gets in the process.
Screen Rant caught up with both Graham Yost and Hugh Howey to discuss Silo. Hugh Howey talks about the inspiration behind the story, while Graham talks about adapting it for television. They both also share whether they would live contently in the silo or search for the truth, and why their star Rebecca Ferguson was perfect for the role.
So, we took this one nugget that he would put in there about how Holston had met Juliette, that there had been death of a boyfriend that she felt was suspicious. And he investigated. And that's it. And we said, let's turn that into something. Let's make that guy a character. Let's have that be the thing that's driving her throughout. She wants to find out what happened to George.
Graham Yost: Usually, I would do some stupid joke at this point. Because Rebecca and I just give each other shit all the time. Well, you can talk about the way she leads everyone. Graham Yost: The reality is we can joke about this in terms of the silo, but it does go back to the darker question of, if you're in France in 1943, are you going to be part of the resistance or you just gonna go along? And really, you had three choices, be part of the resistance, just go along, or run away, and hide, right? And you can't really hide anywhere in the silo. And there isn't really resistance.
