Archer's ambitious plans include launching its Midnight air taxi by 2025, boasting remarkable quietness, a 100-mile range, and a payload capacity of 1,000 lbs.

In an interview with IE, Archer CCO Nikhil Goel said the company’s Midnight flying taxi is “on track” to fly passengers by 2025.Flying taxi firm Archer Aviation recently signed an agreement with NASA to test its battery cells

In partnering with Archer, NASA aims to benefit the entire aerospace industry. It will develop new technologies to extend battery life and make eVTOL flying taxis safer for passengers.Detachable flying vans seal a deal with LuftCar, Philippines “Maturing battery technology is anticipated to be a key enabling factor for the mass production and adoption of electric aviation,” Goel told, adding that Archer has chosen a reliable cylindrical cell for its Midnight air taxi. “The cylindrical cell has a track record of safety, performance and scalability proven through decades of volume manufacturing, deployed across many applications globally, including in millions of electric vehicles.

The company has since completed Phase 1 of its flight test program, which it is conducting in a bid to receive FAA certification. This vision has seen it develop a “proprietary powertrain designed and developed in-house and is roughly 500 lbs lighter than any existing solution on the market,” Goel said, adding that Midnight has an “industry leading” payload capacity of approximately 1,000 lbs.. “Our world-class industrial design and engineering teams worked together throughout the aircraft development process to create an aircraft that is timelessly beautiful inside and out,” Goel explained.
