Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) Ontario Beach Park welcomed visitors to take a dip in the lake Thursday.
The official designation came a day early due to the four-day heat wave that swept across the region this week."I was honestly so excited," said Elena Flabo, a lifeguard at the beach entering her third summer in the role. "I love working here. I love being here. I was like ‘Of course! I would love to open early.’"
The beach was filled with visitors sharing in the excitement of opening day, whether they were there for the new spray park or enjoying the sand. "We work together to practice drills," said Falbo. "We go through what an emergency scenario would look like so we’re all prepared if anything were to happen. We run through first aid."
