MotoGP: Francesco Bagnaia has claimed his third successive MotoGP Italian Grand Prix victory after charging to victory in Tuscany.

Jack Miller may have lost his form and his job, but his sense of reality and humour remain intact. Which, with his MotoGP mortality staring him in the face, can only be of benefit.

Those results, though, have nosedived since he left Ducati and a series of one-year rolling contracts to sign with KTM for two years in 2023, 11th in the standings last year preceding this year’s precipitous drop-off to 16th after seven rounds, Miller managing just 27 points so far this season and having gone scoreless in the past four Grands Prix in Spain, France, Catalunya and Italy.

Is Miller right to retain his optimism? There’s jobs on offer on the MotoGP grid, but some that are seemingly a road to nowhere. What about alternatives elsewhere? Or neither?OPTION 1: STRAIGHT SWAP WITH ACOSTA Fernandez, the 2022 Moto2 champion, has struggled in the face of Acosta’s remarkable adaptation to MotoGP machinery, scoring just 13 points to sit 12 places below the rookie in the championship standings.

“First of all Jack is still part of our program, and no new rider has come on board – we just committed that Pedro will move from one garage to the other and also move colours. But absolutely, Jack has the chance to stay with us for next year.” There’s no lack of quality in that quartet – Mir was the 2020 MotoGP world champion, Zarco a Grand Prix winner in Australia last October – but Honda seems to be on a slow road to nowhere, its riders simply striving to see the finish line and remain injury-free asOf Honda’s four riders, only Zarco and Marini are signed beyond this season, while Mir has been repeatedly linked with retirement despite being just 26 years old, his battered body from crashes caused by pushing the recalcitrant RC213V...

Pursuing options in World Superbikes would be one path, with Ducati – who Miller left on good terms after spending five MotoGP seasons with – the machine to be on in the production bike series.
