The National Shrimp Festival returns to Gulf Shores Oct. 6-9 after missing two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 🍤

That beach cruiser might come in handy if you're going to the 2022 National Shrimp Fest. The event will offer valet parking for bicyclists.Organizers of the 2022 National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores aren’t just encouraging patrons to arrive by bicycle: For the first time, they’re offering valet service for visitors who pedal themselves to the event.

Times have changed. “Because the City of Gulf Shores has invested nearly $1 million in recent years to improve bicycle safety, and there are 52 miles of shared-use pathways connecting Gulf Shores, Gulf State Park, and Orange Beach, the time seemed right to welcome bike riders to the festival grounds,” Wiese said in a Shrimp Fest announcement issued this week.

Another reason the new program is timely: construction near the festival site has reduced on-site parking for automobiles. According to this week’s announcement, the bicycle valet station will be located next to the information tent at the front entrance of the festival. Volunteers will greet bike riders and check in their bicycles. Riders “will receive a bicycle tag and matching numbered ticket and be able to enjoy the festival knowing their bicycle is secured in a safe location throughout the duration of their visit.
