Showers, thunderstorms hit Chicago area as cold front moves through
CHICAGO -- Showers and thunderstorms developed along a cold front as it moved through the area Monday night. Severe thunderstorms were spotted early in the evening in DeKalb County, while video captured hail falling in Ogle County near Rockford. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph accompanied the storms.As the evening went on, storms passed through and brought thunder, lightning, and pouring rain to communities around the area. At 10 p.m.
, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted over Kewanee Municipal Airport, moving northeast at 30 mph. No tornado warnings were issued anywhere closer than that to the Chicago area Monday night.Rain remained scattered by the 10 p.m. hour, but was set to become widespread -- with a 100 percent chance of rain for the Chicago area. The rain will be widespread especially after midnight, though the sever weather threat after midnight was low.
