The father of the teen suspect in the fatal Georgia high school mass shooting appeared in court Friday on his own charges.
CINCINNATI -
Local 12 has found, that if what happened in Georgia happened in Ohio, the boy’s father would likely not get charged in Ohio, as he was in Georgia. Prosecutor Powers said if the same thing were to happen in Ohio, that happened in Georgia, she would simply not be able to prosecute Colin Gray's father for involuntary manslaughter or second-degree murder.
“Yeah, you can’t be criminally liable for something you don’t have knowledge of. And that’s the way Ohio’s law is currently structured, and I think that’s the right thing,” said Clark. Currently, 11 states have laws that penalize people for not storing guns in such a way that children could access them, 15 states have laws that hold adults liable only if children actually access guns and shoot someone, 24 states including Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana have no state safe storage laws.
