Friendships at work aren’t something you need to avoid! It’s true that, as a manager, the nature of the job means yourelationships with them, and you can still talk about your weekends and know a bit about one another’s lives. But there’s no reason you can’t have closer relationships with peers and other colleagues who don’t report to you..
You don’t need to form deep friendships to reap these benefits; simply being warm and friendly and showing a genuine interest in your colleagues as people is enough to provide the social lubricant that will get you there.
