A proposal by ‘News’ architecture critic Mark Lamster to reinvent the site where John F. Kennedy was assassinated has sparked a community conversation.

Also appearing was Nicola Longford, executive director of The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza.

As to how it could happen, Agarwal cited the city’s recent history of public-private partnerships — Klyde Warren Park being the most successful — as did designer Reed, who applauded Dallas’ trend of expanded public spaces as having done “an amazing job of creating new life, new vitality.” Architecture critic Mark Lamster and Sixth Floor Museum director Nicola Longford talk about proposed changes to Dealey Plaza while standing over the Triple Underpass on Aug. 16.

Rather than focus only on a memorial for Martyr's Park in downtown Dallas, 'News' architecture critic Mark Lamster says the city should include the project as part of a larger park plan to turn the area around the Triple Underpass into a pedestrian plaza connecting multiple memorials. Reed called for “memorial pools” to replace portions of Elm Street, now marked by garish X’s in the pavement, to denote the spots where bullets hit. “We were out there this morning to walk the site again, and I must say, it’s heartbreaking to see these X’s scrawled in the ground and then to see automobiles and trucks just simply passing over — which should be hallowed ground.”
