The Giants are seeking a new head coach.
But they also need someone who can develop quarterback Jaxson Dart in Year 2 and beyond.target an up-and-coming offensive coordinator — and that they ought to prioritize head coaching experience. But who is to say that the Giants can’t find their Sean McVay in this search? After all, that mission worked out just fine for the Bears and Jaguars in the 2025 hiring cycle.
And as we’ve mentioned: When you have a young quarterback, it’s always more convenient to hire an offensive-minded head coach. That’s because a defensive-minded head coach not only needs to land a legit offensive coordinator, but then must hope that guy doesn’t bolt for a head coaching job if the quarterback thrives. Which would create instability. Clearly, the Giants must value leadership in this search. They can’t just hire a successful offensive coordinator for the sake of it. And maybe they can have it both ways — with a candidate like Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. Still just 46, he has plenty of head coaching experience , though not much success. In Washington, he has molded Jayden Daniels.according to The Athletic. Kubiak, 38, has never been a head coach. So he could be the Giants’ McVay — a young, first-time big whistle who doubles as an offensive wizard and a dynamic leader. Who else might fit that description, as the Giants dive into what ought to be a wide-ranging search, with Dart’s development very much in mind?• Joe Brady • Declan Doyle • Nate Scheelhaase • Zac Robinson • Davis Webb Obviously, the Giants won’t target all of those assistants. And some of them, like Webb , might be a hiring cycle or two away from getting a head coaching job. But maybe there’s the next McVay on that list. He had zero head coaching experience when the Rams hired him in 2017. Ditto for Johnson and Coen this year. Of course, the Giants are still stinging from the post-Tom Coughlin failures they endured under three rookie head coaches — Ben McAdoo, Joe Judge and Daboll. McAdoo and Daboll are both offensive minds. So are they ready to take another leap with a candidate like that? Despite all that recent misery, they should at least be open to it.
