A newly listed home in Short Hills, New Jersey, has sold for a record-breaking price, becoming the most expensive home sold in both Short Hills and Essex County in 2024.
A home in Short Hills just closed and set a record for the town and Essex County with its sales price. The seven-bedroom, eight full and two half-bathroom home was listed July 24 for $7,925,000. It closed December 11 for $8,250,000 making it the most expensive house to ever sell in Short Hills and the most expensive home to sell in Essex County in 2024.
We knew it was special and the perfect house to upsize to, said Cristian Perez, who along with Anthony Verducci of Serhant New Jersey, listed the home. In this price point, it’s unusual to have multiple offers and to have a house sell so quickly, the agents said. A lot of the buyers who aren’t paying cash are sitting on 2%-3% mortgages, Verducci said. So it’s hard for them to want to go get a 7% mortgage and because of that we don’t see enough people selling. Five people toured the home the first weekend it was on the market -- and they all submitted written offers. The winning bid was chosen because of its terms. The price certainly helped and the fact that it was a cash offer made it very appealing, Perez said. This home was built in 2017, spans 10,000 square feet and it has an enclosed porch with retractable screens overlooking a resort-style pool and a sports court on nearly 2 acres with total privacy. That was the draw for most people, Verducci said. A lot of times when you find a property of this size, the homes are older. This property had a newer home, a lot of square footage, volume and a fluid layout in what the agents call a classic modern style. It appealed to more traditional and contemporary buyers, Verducci said. It kind of appeals to everyone. And the way the property is landscaped, you can’t really see any of the neighbors. The home is also set up higher on a knoll, so it looks like a true estate, Perez said. Despite the privacy, the home is only a half mile from the center of Millburn and its train station is within walking distanc
