In this edition of 'Shopping with Vogue,' VogueMagazine shops with Batsheva Hay of the label Batsheva for the perfect Hanukkah dress
She’s been to the neighborhood recently, shopping for a religious gift for her and her husband’s anniversary. They got married eight years ago on the fifth night of Hanukah, so the holiday is especially sentimental. “My husband loves a little Judaica gift, like a tallis and a gartle,” she says. On her trawl, she came across Top Fashion, a store specializing in modest clothes located on 382 Kingston Ave, and our destination this afternoon.
Hay and I start perusing the garments. They range from very “Batsheva,” complete with frills and ruffles, to decadent robes for Shabbos, the day of rest when you are forbidden to work and use electricity. In the corner, there’s a rack of shin-length tennis skirts, which Lerman says “are really popular now.” Hay likes the label’s names, which sound like luxury brands but with a twist.
