Leaked Slack messages show Shopify plans to address pay and attrition woes: 'It's very hard to focus if you or your team is being targeted by recruiters, we get that.'
In an internal Slack message, an exec said an announcement would be coming soon. Shopify plans to address employee concerns regarding compensation during a town hall in April, according to screenshots of the company's internal Shopify employees are granted restricted stock units, or RSUs, when they join the company, in addition to their base salaries. Tensions have grown internally over the last several months as Shopify's stock has fallen from its pandemic highs.
Shopify's stock is currently trading at around $740 as of Tuesday afternoon. Near its peak in the fall of 2021, it traded at about $1,762. with the headline"Shopify Doubles Down on 'Pay Isn't Everything' Approach" to an internal Slack channel, which prompted heated debate among some employees.
"It's the hottest talent market we've ever experienced, so that means all companies, including us have to be on our toes," Thawar wrote in a thread about a week later, on March 23."Stock price is volatile, not just ours.
