Doctors say that menopause kits sold on the High Street are not predictive enough to pinpoint the change of life.
They can be bought without a prescription, for about £10 for a pack of two.
And a constant high FSH level may indicate "the ovaries are not working" and "no egg production is happening". Director Dr John Rees told BBC News: "The pack includes two tests, the second test to be taken a week later and only if both tests are positive to consider menopause.
