) - A shooting, a fire and a childbirth. It all happened withing about 250 feet Sunday near the intersection of Duval Street and Michigan Avenue.early Sunday that engulfed a home on Plover Street. Next-door neighbor Michael Gay saw that and then later saw a woman giving birth in the parking lot of Big MO Food Mart.
A man picked up the newborn and ran to Plover Street, where a Mobile Fire-Rescue crew was still on the scene of the fire. Medics helped make sure the baby was OK. “I was just standing outside talking with some people due to the fire that happened,” Gay said. “And a guy came running around the corner on a newborn baby and was trying to get to the paramedics and all them. … He was yelling, ‘Help. Someone had a baby.’ Help. Help.’ And he was panicked.”Mobile Fire-Rescue District Chief Brandon Jackson said in a statement that his fire-medics did what they are trained to do. “Moving without thought, seeing our neighbors in need, and helping to get the proper care. … This is why we train, prepare, and do the job each and every day,” he said in a statement. “We stand ready to go!” Fire-medics were nearby because crews were still battling the fire hours later. Victoria Davis told FOX10 News that her sister, her mother, Annette Davis, and her stepfather, Llewelyn Perry, were inside the home when it caught fire. She said Perry was on oxygen and now is in intensive care with possible smoke inhalation.“That woke me up,” Gay said. “All I know is I heard a lot of pops and then the explosion that shook my house, startled me and my nephews awake. And honestly, I was terrified.”“Heard what sounded like a bunch of firecrackers going off,” she said. “And then a few seconds, there was, like, a pause and then a big boom. And everybody in this house went outside to see what was going on. And the house was on fire.”“Yesterday was oooh,” he said. “Hopefully, we go back to being mundane.”
