“And it’s unimaginable that this woman endured it for that length of time and then endured the terrible death.” The court heard that in January 2006, when Miss Yunupingu was 16, she was the victim of a “brutal assault that almost ended her life”. He was offered leniency in part because he had told the court he was no longer in a relationship with Miss Yunupingu.
