A quiet cul-de-sac in Mackay was the scene of a shooting this week that claimed the life of Natalie Frahm — and police still don't know why.
Low-set brick homes line the cul-de-sac that wraps around a tree-filled park, south of Mackay's city centre in north Queensland.
Since moving to Mackay, a small city of 120,000 people, Ms Frahm had become part of the tight-knit Muay Thai community and was well on her way to becoming a high-level boxer. Mr Cole allegedly fled the scene before police arrived and the normally calm neighbourhood was locked down. Nearby, officers had cordoned off the cul-de-sac and were using metal detectors to search for evidence.
Neighbours said they only occasionally saw Mr Cole — who had lived in the street for about seven years — outside working on his boat.Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said police would look "really closely" at the incident and the alleged shooter's access to weapons.
