The former Japanese prime minister appears to have been shot twice while giving a campaign speech in the city of Nara.

The suspected attacker is in police custody, according to reports, and it remains to be seen if Abe will recover. NHK has identified the suspect as 42-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami.
