Sherri Papini, the California mom who staged her own kidnapping in 2016, tells police what they know about her case is 'embarrassing' in an interrogation interview.
"She was trying to get away from her husband," James Reyes, her former boyfriend, says in the"20/20" episode.after her disappearance belonged to Reyes. When confronted with that information in a different August 2020 interview previously obtained by Fox News Digital, Papini became distressed.
"We talked to him," investigators told Papini of Reyes in that interview."We’ve been on a polygraph. We talked to everybody around him. We have the rental agreements. Phone rental, car rental agreements. We have everything that says that he said he told the truth," the detective told Sherri."Everything you’ve told us, so many truths in this situation. The reason why you can describe the room is because you stayed in the room, in the dark, for hours, for days on end.
"The reason why you lost so much weight is because you stopped eating. The reason why you got a rash on your arm was because you cleaned his house. The reason why the brand is because he went to the store, got the branding tools and branded you. The reason why your nose is broke is because of a hockey stick … I know all of those things … because he passed a polygraph test that said, ‘It’s not an abduction, she asked me to come get her. I rented a car. I drove up and picked her up.
