, Tamu McPherson, hosted a private dinner and presentation in Oakland, California in honor of breakout designer, Christopher John Rogers. Both McMullen and McPherson held the festive dinner to celebrate Rogers’ recent CFDA/Fashion Fund win. It was a full house in Downtown Oakland’s posh 1544 Events warehouse space.
25-year-old Baton Rouge-born and Brooklyn-based, designer, Rogers recently burst on the NYFW scene but has already risen up the ranks by styling the likes of Michelle Obama, Lizzo, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Rihanna, ultimately proving himself to be included as one of the 2019 CFDA/Fashion Fund finalists. The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc.
Christopher winning the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Award means that the industry is recognizing a talented designer whose passion and creativity shine through. He is creating pieces that you want to have in your wardrobe, wear today and in 10 years. We are celebrating an artist whose clothing makes me want to dance. Everyone should be wearing Christopher John Rogers. It is important that I support the work of black designers as a black woman in fashion and a buyer in my position.
Next plans are, moving the studio from our apartment to an actual studio, paying ourselves full time, investing in the products mostly, elevating fabrics that fit, because I feel like that’s the most important product and really making sure that the customer feels like we’re really paying attention to them.
