President-elect Donald Trump has promised to “back the blue” at state and local levels while transforming federal law enforcement.“To have a president back in office that is going to back the blue, that’s going to look out for us and really take care of us, is just remarkable,” said Loudoun Country, Virginia, Sheriff Mike Chapman. “Not only is he going to make America great again, he is going to make America safe again.
Chapman worked for the Drug Enforcement Administration for more than 20 years before becoming sheriff. He said it would be an honor to lead the DEA if Trump calls him to., withdrew his name from consideration Tuesday. "Those are decisions made at certainly at the president’s level, much higher level than me,” Chapman said. “To be part of the conversation is an honor, and if something like that were to happen, it would really and truly be the honor of a lifetime.”
During Trump’s first term, Chapman met with the president several times. He has also served under the Biden administration. “He would invite us down—not only me but a bunch of sheriffs at different times—to get our input on what was going on in the country, what he needed to do to support us in enforcing the law,” he said. “In the past four years, not a single invite to the White House under the Biden administration.”“To malign the entire profession over just a miniscule amount law enforcement officers that go south is really unfortunate,” Chapman said.
