Deputies Lisa Lee and Jorge Chavez shot Patrick Wendell Lowell after he refused orders to drop a knife and imitation handgun
Sheriff’s officials this week identified two deputies involved in shooting an armed man Saturday morning in Bonsall. Deputies Lisa Lee and Jorge Chavez shot Patrick Wendell Lowell, 66, of Escondido, in the legs and lower body after he refused to follow deputy orders while he held a knife in one hand and a Glock-style firearm in the other, San Diego police Lt. Steve Shebloski said in a news release Wednesday. Lowell was taken to a hospital with wounds believed to be non-life threatening.
As deputies were responding, more calls were made about the armed man, Shebloski said. A sheriff’s canine unit and helicopter were also called in. Lee and Chavez reached the scene, and found Lowell, Shebloski said. The deputies gave numerous commands for him to drop the weapons, and after he refused, they opened fire with their handguns, striking Lowell multiple times. The deputies administered aid until paramedics arrived. The weapons were recovered, Sheblowski said.
